TITLE Design Phase of the SmartMeds: AI-Based Health Record Summary System
ABSTRACT Electronic Health Records (EHRs) form the backbone of modern healthcare systems, yet fragmented patient data across multiple healthcare providers leads to incomplete diagnoses, delayed treatment, and compromised patient care quality. This paper presents the design phase of SmartMeds, a comprehensive web-based platform that centralizes patient medical histories while implementing strict role-based access control for doctors and patients. The system integrates AI-powered summarization capabilities to assist clinicians in rapidly reviewing extensive medical histories. This paper focuses on system architecture design, database modeling, user interface design, security considerations, and system workflows. The proposed architecture uses React.js for frontend, Node.js with Express for backend, PostgreSQL for relational data persistence, and Python Flask for AI integration. The design emphasizes scalability, security, and user accessibility, making it suitable for deployment in clinics, hospitals, and telemedicine platforms. Expected outcomes include a modular, secure, and efficient system ready for implementation in Phase 2.
