| ABSTRACT | This study is conducted to determine the impact of social media on student academic performance with a focus on different departments of Siddhant Institute of Computer Application, Sudumbare. Questionnaire was used for collecting data. Out of forty copies of the questionnaire distributed, forty responses were retrieved which represented a response rate of 75%. The study revealed that majority of the respondents had mobile phones and had different social media accounts and spend time between minimum 1-2 hours and maximum 4 hours per day on them. In addition, the study revealed that some students had become addicted to social media due to daily use, and it is affecting their studies. The study suggests, among other things, that students with mobile phones and internet access should be encouraged to use them to help with their research in the library instead of only relying on the usual methods like chatting with friends all the time. Students should be encouraged to limit the time they spend on their social media sites per day and advised to use those hours to read novels to improve their knowledge. Since the use of social media sites had affected the academic work of students negatively, there is an urgent need for the introduction of students to the availability of novels and other study materials that can help them learn. |
